Going Good has become a ‘buy on sight’ label for me, and this wonderful LP from Detroit duo Cosmic Handshakes, released at the start of the year, is one of the reasons why. It works perfectly as a home-listening experience, segueing from beatless interludes to hazy Balearic jams and jazz-inflected beatdown house, with a loose, live feel bolstered by a host of real instruments. As an album it really rewards repeated listening and I’m still hearing new things in it. It’s available digitally here if you’re that way inclined.
I also really enjoyed Weird Weather’s Leather Chair 12”, the label’s other 2018 release – a slightly more club-focused sound but with its own unique edge.
